Another Sunday Times Bestseller
Great news this week from our publisher Bloomsbury, they emailed to let us know that Wendy Mitchell’s latest book, WHAT I WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT DEMENTIA, published in paperback, will chart at number ten in this weekend’s Sunday Times Bestsellers.
We are so delighted. Regular followers will know that Wendy and I have written two books together, SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW, and WHAT I WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT DEMENTIA. And this news means that each publication – in both hardback and paperback – has been a Sunday Times Bestseller.
On publication of SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW, our publisher, Bloomsbury, commissioned this beautiful short film of Wendy reading from the book. I watch it every time with tears in my eyes, so I thought you might like to see it too.
In June, Bloomsbury will publish a third book by Wendy and myself, it will be our last together. We’re currently going backwards and forwards with our editor choosing the cover, but when we have settled on it, I will make pre-orders available here.
As I’ve been writing this, a delivery of flowers has arrived from Bloomsbury to celebrate our latest Sunday Times Bestseller. Wendy and I have often talked of what an amazing experience it has been working together, there have been so many wonderful moments, I know Wendy never expected this when she was diagnosed with dementia back in July 2014.
Her books have been sold all around the world and translated into so many different languages helping so many people who are living with the disease, caring for someone with the disease or, simply giving many others a fresh perspective on why it’s so important to embrace every moment in this life.
But the biggest gain for me through all this has been the friendship that Wendy and I have developed over those years. I wrote the epilogue to our forthcoming third book with a great pile of tissues next to me and tears rolling down my cheeks. It was, after all, the last time I was going to embody Wendy’s voice.
And it has been such a privilege.
